Lore & Background
The game's protagonist is Elodie, a 14-year-old princess of Nova, whose mother Queen Fidelia has recently died. Elodie must leave her schooling to prepare for her coronation in 40 weeks. Many in the kingdom attempt to take advantage of the monarch's death and kill Elodie. The player schedules weekly lessons in topics such as economics, intrigue, expression, military, medicine, conversation, and lumen (magic) skills, with two classes per week. Weekend activities alter Elodie's mood across four emotional axes, affecting her proficiency in learning certain skills.
Reader's Guide
Long Live the Queen is notable for its branching decision trees and multiple endings, varying according to whom Elodie marries, how she dealt with neighboring nations, her ability with magic, the fate of her father Joslyn, and whether she survived to her coronation. The game features 11 possible ways for Elodie to die if her skills are insufficient. A free update on January 26, 2015 added new characters, story elements, and endings. The game received 'mixed or average' reviews on Metacritic, with Technology Tell scoring it 90/100 and praising its darker themes. A follow-up game, Galaxy Princess Zorana, was released on November 21, 2025.
